Congresswoman Maxine Waters Goes Ballistic on Rahm Emmanuel and Blue Dog Democrats on the Health Care Issue
Obama’s health care bill is a people issue, not just a class issue. If the public option fails in Congress, the bill is not worth a hill of red beans, no matter how they try to dress it up.
Don’t believe the BS that the bill is going to destroy health care in the United States. The public option is going to make competition expedient and drive down costs.
Blacks and Latinos need health care. The reason why I have not been online very much in the last week is that I sustained an injury to my wrists and elbows after a fall last Sunday, and I have no health plan after being seen at the emergency room at a local Madison hospital. Thousands of black people and Latinos are in the same situation–unemployed, under-employed, or employed at minimum wage. They–and I–cannot afford health care as it is now. Passage of a health care bill would especially help the lower-middle class and the working poor.
Sister Waters is blaming the Blue Dog Democrats for stalling on this issue. Blue Dog Democrats are conservative Democrats surrounded by Republicans in their states. Some are also Republicans who went Democratic last year to save their seats. These guys were also encouraged by President Obama’s right-hand hatchet man, Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel, to jump ship.
Unfortunately, Waters says, the chickens have come home to roost in allowing these apostate Republicans–or Democrats in name only– to turn blue. They, along with Senator Baucus of Montana, are working hard to deep-six the bill at the behest of their money-men, Big Pharma and the private health care industry who are spending $1.4 million dollars A DAY to make sure it doesn’t pass.
Meanwhile, President Obama is still talking consensus and compromise–the same Clintonesque BS that murdered health care reform in the Nineties. This is BS, Mr. President. It’s time to put the fear of the Universe into these recalcitrants. Even Arianna Huffington talked about this strategy this morning on The Early Show, beating down Harry Smith’s talking points. It’s time for arm-twisting and footstomping.
Iceberg Slim over at Daily Kos said it best:
If the Senate Finance Committee drops the public option, the bill is worthless.
Let me repeat this, “If the Senate Finance Committee drops the public option, the bill is worthless.”
It means that the 1.4 million lobby pay days have won.
It means that the senate is bogged down with members on the take.
It means that the American public’s voice is stiffled, again.
It means that the real power in Washington, D.C. is not at the White House but with “K Street” and the checks are being written, as I type.
This also means that you have a problem here, President Obama.
If the public option is destroyed from the legislation going forward, Mr. President, you can kiss a lot of loyal folks who are depending on not only you, but moreso this Democratic congress to do the right thing, GOODBYE.
Contact the White House, too. Tell the man that you didn’t vote for him just to see health care go down in flames.
