The First Lady Gives Speaker Boehner The Side Eye

This was priceless, if you didn’t see it during the live feed of the Inaugural luncheon after the swearing-in and other honors.  I thought I saw something, but wasn’t too sure until now.  I saw it first on Gawker, and then got this from Addicting Info:

I am all for throwing shade at nasty people, and Michelle Obama does it with grace and class here. This piece of gold is courtesy of Tumblr blogger Mattyrab.

Now, some might say that Mrs. Obama could have stopped short of her obvious disdain for Boehner, but, on the other side of that, he could have shown some respect for her husband, which, as far as I can see, he has never done. He certainly didn’t today, as anyone who watch the inaugural events knows. Now that President Obama is sworn in, signed, sealed, and delivered for a second term, I think she deserves to be able to relax a bit more and show what she really thinks. Further, it isn’t like everyone doesn’t already know how she likely feels about the man anyway.

What, may you ask, is the side eye?

It is allowing yourself to slide your eyes to a corner left or right in a derisive, contemptuous, or dismissive manner.  Especially if you have a reason to distrust or cannot abide the other person or people.  Many black women are pros at this kind of thing.  You don’t have to say it, but you sure can indicate your profound dislike by these means.  Some also call it eye-cutting.

Gawker called it “master class material” and the diss as “world historical shade.”

Yes, I think there is definitely going to be a difference between the second term and the first term.  Especially after that Inaugural Address.
