Trailer for “Precious”

Some Oscar buzz for this flick is beginning. It is all based on the writer Sapphire‘s book, Push. The film title was changed to Precious so that it would not be confused with an action film of the same name. It’s going to be released in November.

Precious is the story of a pregnant and obese black teen trapped in a cycle of incest and abuse, and how she came to confront and to conquer her circumstances.

Precious just won three awards at Robert Redford’s Sundance Festival, including both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for the Dramatic category, and a Special Jury Award for Mo’Nique’s portrayal of the mother. Precious also stars Paula Patton, Lenny Kravitz, Sherri Shepherd and Mariah Carey, with newcomer Gabourey Sidibe as Precious Jones.

It is scheduled to be shown at Cannes. Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry are the executive producers of the film. Lee Daniels, who produced Monster’s Ball, directed. Co-producers are Lee Daniels Entertainment, and Sarah Siegel-Magness and Gary Magness of Smokewood Entertainment Group.

Do yourselves a favor first, people. READ the book. Then enjoy the film.
