Madonna Has Mercy

I hate this; there must have been a lot of money greasing those legal wheels in Malawi. And they wrote those rules and laws to protect the children. Now the floodgates have opened. If we hear a couple of years later that people have been buying Malawian children to make them agricultural or sex slaves, child soldiers, or whatever, I am going to say it’s because of this rich white b*tch.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Last month, the man believed to be Mercy’s father told a US TV programme The Early Show he opposed the adoption and wanted to look after her – even though he had never met her.

“I want to take care of her, and I’m capable to take care of my baby,” he told the CBS show.

“Mercy, she is a Malawian – so [I] need her to grow as a Malawian as well with our culture.”

That excerpt was just played on The Early Show. He also said that he had been told that Mercy’s mother had died in childbirth, and the baby with her, possibly by the grandmother, who was just as adamant that Mercy not be adopted. (It could be that her daughter’s pregnancy was out of wedlock.) Even her wishes have been put aside. Whether the young man interviewed is Mercy’s biological father or not, she will be brought up with a heightened sense of entitlement, contempt for and estrangement from her own African culture.

  1. Its a shame Madonna didn’t get Mercy as she could give her a much better life, but she must also abide by that countries laws too…like the rest of us.
