Here we go again. Time goes by soooo fast when you’re not pondering something like this, scandal masquerading as public intellectual discourse, but the case will go forward powered by the so-called wheels of justice. From The Independent in Britain:

Tomorrow’s hearing allows Judge Schnegg to determine whether there is sufficient evidence for Mr Brown to stand trial in front of a jury. Ms Fenty has been subpoenaed to appear, and is likely to face questions from both prosecution and defence lawyers.

Legal experts expect the outcome to be a formality, saying they can see few circumstances in which a judge would not consider there to be “probable cause” for a trial to proceed. However, they expect the occasion to be used for PR purposes by Mr Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos.

Look for Geragos to do everything, including blaming the victim which will enrage conscious women all over. However, it’s also likely that he’ll cop a plea deal for Chris Brown, worth millions to his record company, and worth everything to fantasizing young women everywhere.

Then again, Rihanna can’t be forced to testify against Brown, though she is required to be present in court.

[…] While Rihanna is legally required to appear in court, she could refuse to take the stand and the court cannot threaten her with jail time [as can be done in a non-domestic violence case]. At most, she could be punished with fines or other sanctions, but a judge may be reluctant to do so. Also, prosecutors could decide last-minute not to call her as a witness.

Rihanna testifying or not testifying could make or break the prosecution’s case against Chris Brown. Like I’ve said before, I wouldn’t be surprised if he skips. Not because I want him to.

Stay tuned.
