From Mashable.com. They talked so much about Betty White (much as I like her, I’m beginning to gag every time I hear her name) that this news got pushed to the side:
Ad agency Wieden + Kennedy’s “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” TV spot for Old Spice has won the Emmy for Outstanding Commercial.
The spot starred former NFL wide receiver Isaiah Mustafa as the Old Spice Guy, a character now well-known in pop culture thanks to the TV ads and a highly successful social media campaign.
The Old Spice Guy solicited questions from fans on Twitter (Twitter), Yahoo Answers and other websites, then answered them in short, humorous YouTube (YouTube) videos. Total upload views for the Old Spice YouTube videos (including both the TV and the social media campaigns) currently stand at almost 135 million. “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” has more than 18 million.
Mustafa joked in one of the final videos that he was a struggling actor, but the ads seem to have stripped away the “struggling” bit. He’s been signed to two movie roles, and will also appear in the NBC TV series Chuck.
And this Chuck gig is going to be weird. Check this out:
Isaiah Mustafa and Stacy Keibler will be guest-starring this season. And they’ll both be playing the same character, sort of. Here is how Zachary Levi explains this character: “[They will play] this recurring character. There’s a character named Greta who’s going to be in almost every episode, but it’s played by a different actor every time. It’s this CIA worker — the CIA has now taken over the Buy More, and there all these different government workers who are staffing it, so you see different ones, but the same one, named Greta in every episode. … It’s a guy or a girl, you never know.” Some time will have passed between seasons. Since the Buy More was destroyed, Jeff and Lester are on the lam, Chuck is not working for he government but Sarah and Casey are. The new CIA-run Buy More will be a well-oiled machine — so well -oiled that it won’t even be a good cover anymore. Therefore, decisions will be made to bring the Buy More back to where it was in all its glory.
Far out. Good luck, bro’. I look forward to seeing some of your work…heh, heh, heh. But I am going to miss you as Old Spice Guy.
The first is a leading role in Madea’s Big Happy Family, the newest installment in Tyler Perry’s Madea franchise. The lucrative series, which started with Diary of a Mad Black Woman, will now star Mustafa as Calvin, “who is struggling with his marriage and family relationships,” according to ABC News. He will share the screen with Loretta Devine and Bow Wow.
His second film is Horrible Bosses, which stars Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey, Jason Sudeikis and Jamie Foxx in a comedy where three friends (Bateman, Day, Sudeikis) are so frustrated with their bosses (Aniston, Spacey, Farrell) that they decide to kill them. According to E!, Mustafa will have a smaller role as a cop.
Hmmm…I also noticed that Mustafa wasn’t photographed with his girlfriend. Did she come to the Emmys with him so that we can scope her out? Are they still together? Looks like.
