Meanwhile, Back in Wisconsin: The Standoff…and the Demonstration…Continues at the Capitol
Unfortunately, I have to go to work later today, taking a shift from someone who has a relative visiting. If I had known all this would happen, I would not have picked up the shift, but a promise is a promise. Otherwise I would be with the heroes and the sheroes today.
In the meantime, live blogging is happening at the Isthmus newspaper and of course, there is WisconsinEye. The Assembly is meeting right now (9:53 a.m.).
There is a report that counter-protesters (those supporting Walker and the bill) are on their way over to the Capitol Square, and that a Dem state senator, Senator Miller, may be at his home; the state troopers have been dispatched to bring him to the Capitol and provide quorum. The state troopers, by the way, are rumored to be highly reluctant to go hunting for recalcitrant Democratic legislators.
Meanwhile, the Capitol Police as well as Madison Police have been working 18 hour shifts during this crisis. They are quite tired. If anything, in this case, the local constables on patrol deserve some respect.
I won’t be able to talk about the day’s events until tonight, but pray that there is no violence. There are teenagers and children there with their parents and teachers. Whole families. It only takes someone acting stupid. This action is no joke.
Gotta go. But pray for the safety of all.
