That Brother in The “Detectives” Nicorette Gum Commercial
You know where this really comes from, right?
Straight from the 1993 Kevin Kline movie, Dave, in which Ving Rhames as Duane Stevenson, President Harrison Mitchell’s Secret Service shadow, says near the conclusion that he would take a bullet for the Mitchell double/impersonator Dave Kovic. Only this time, Cartwright has second thoughts about taking that bullet at the site of a crime scene, despite trenchcoats, cop cars, yellow tape, and all.
This is only the latest in Nicorette‘s ad campaign, realized by Chiat Day in New York, promoting the Nicorette mini-lozenge. You remember the rubber shark, do you? This one, however, is funnier and easily referenced.
The actor taking the gum is Dan Martin. Handsome brother, and I looked him up. Martin has been on TV shows like The Bold and The Beautiful, Fringe, Malcolm in The Middle and Numb3rs, and almost all of his roles were playing cops. Nothing yet on the actor playing Cartwright at this writing, but I think that both actors are good for a couple more ads, if only to play it for laughs–and get more folks to stop smoking.
