“Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” Strikes Again: Yo Gabba Gabba Stars Do “We’re Gonna Party Today!” with Some Help from DJ Lance Rock, Bootsy Collins, Biz Markie and The Roots

(11/27/11:  Apparently, NBC has taken back the above clip, “We’re Gonna Party Today” which is not available even on Hulu or You Tube.  I hope that NBC changes its mind.  Below is yet another clip from the same show with The Roots, but not starring Biz Markie, Erykah Badu, or Mark Mothersbaugh, etc.)

This song was prefaced with a dedication to the late Sylvia Robinson, called the mother of hip-hop music. It was Robinson who, through her label Sugar Hill Records, brought out “Rapper’s Delight” by the Sugarhill Gang, the first hip-hop record, way back in the day. Robinson died recently at the age of 75.  Ms. Robinson also scored a rather popular soul hit in the early Seventies called “Pillow Talk.”

Yo Gabba Gabba is on Nick Jr. Its regulars include DJ Lance Rock, Muno, Foofa, Toodee, Brobee, and Plex, but naturally there are some guest stars who also come to the show (and give Sesame Street a run for its corporate support). Mya, Jack Black, The Ting Tings, Supernova, The Roots, Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo, The Postmarks, Laila Ali, Elijah Wood, Sean Kingston are but a few of them.

Interestingly, this show was not created by Nick Jr., but by two young men, Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz, who became dads and who were disgusted with the kinds of children’s programming around. They designed a show featuring real performers and real artists for children which really did not make a splash until it appeared on the Internet. Gradually, their work came to the attention of Nickelodeon.

Apparently, this visit to Fallon’s show was in support of the show’s newest CD, which was released in mid-September, called Music is Awesome, Vol. 3.

I don’t hafta talk about Bootsy. I don’t hafta talk about Biz Markie. Same with Mark Mothersbaugh. Yall know who they are. As usual, they tear this one up.  Enjoy.
