It’s Maurice Sendak’s Birthday! Google Doodles a Tribute to An American Illustrator and His Beloved Children’s Books
Maurice Sendak died last year, but on what would have been his 85th birthday, Google has released a doodle in his honor (just as they did with another children’s favorite, Art Clokey, who created Gumby and Pokey). According to io9’s Lauren Davis,
The Doodle has already appeared on New Zealand’s Google, and I expect the rest of us will be seeing it on our home Google pages as June 10th comes upon us. The animation takes us through Where the Wild Things Are, In the Night Kitchen, and Sendak’s 2011 book Bumble-Ardy. Happy Birthday, Mr. Sendak.
The doodle also conveys a few personal facts about Mr. Sendak. Watch out for them.
It’s going to be a busy Monday. Let’s start on a whimsical note. As Kenneth Branagh said in Peter’s Friends, we’re only kids with credit cards.
